Department Summary

The Digital Spaces department manages physical and virtual classrooms, specialized learning environments, live event spaces, digital signage, and other learning environments (e.g., conference spaces). Oversees that campus spaces are suitably equipped and functional to meet the needs of the educational experience. Oversees the installation and long-term management of display technologies (e.g., screen displays, digital signage) across campus.The Digital Spaces department ensures physical classrooms, specialized learning environments, and other learning environments (e.g., conference spaces) are suitably equipped with technologies and functional to meet the needs of the space and its users.

Position Summary

The Senior AV Installation Support Engineer will work closely with both front-line support teams and the AV/IT solution architects to provide a reliable and best-in-class experience for a range of campus customers in UCLA's many general-use spaces including classrooms, labs, auditoria, lecture halls, live event venues, and other collaboration spaces. The Senior AV Installation Support Engineer will support innovation in AV systems by integrating, programming, testing, documenting, and deploying optimized solutions in line with the defined AV/IT architecture and strategy.

The Senior AV Engineer enacts improvements based on system data and customer feedback at the direction of the Supervisor, Audiovisual Engineering. The Senior AV Installation Support Engineer will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling University stakeholders to effectively leverage data and insights in service of the institution's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.

Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications

  • Five years experience working in one or more of the following fields: computer science, computer information systems, or a related field. (Required)
  • Extensive experience solving technical and non-technical problems; able to delegate solutioning s. Able to lead data gathering efforts seeking information from diverse sources. (Required)
  • Experience as a point of escalation. understanding of how decisions affect teams. ability to make decisions with integrity. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience providing inclusive leadership of others, cultivating an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required)
  • Has demonstrated experience leading in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. (Required)
  • Seven or more years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: computer science, computer information systems. (Preferred)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
  • Proven ability to design, build, and test AV solutions based on project specifications, and experience servicing and troubleshooting new and legacy AV equipment. (Required)
  • Established knowledge and proficiency in designing networked AV systems. (Required)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of network topology, equipment, and capabilities in an AV systems environment. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to create AV flow diagrams, schematics and AV infrastructure drawings. (Required)
  • Knowledge of electronics theory with emphasis on audio, video and communications circuitry, AV IT control systems and signal flow. Knowledge of acoustic design theory. (Required)
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate work assignments to medium-sized teams. Demonstrated experience presenting complex technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required)
  • Demonstrated leadership / management skills, including abilities in persuasion, negotiation, change management, and mentorship. (Required)
  • Advanced project management skills with demonstrated experience delegating responsibility, tracking project progress, supervising others, and advising teams on competing priorities. (Required)
  • Inspires creativity in others and advises teams on industry-leading practices, such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement).

    The anticipated pay range for this position is $110,259-$121,297, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
